Description:

Clarithromycin Injection BP 500 mg is a macrolide antibiotic used for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections especially in cases where oral therapy is not suitable It contains Clarithromycin which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis making it effective against a broad spectrum of Grampositive Gramnegative and atypical pathogens

This formulation is supplied as a sterile lyophilized powder and must be reconstituted and diluted before administration via intravenous infusion

Indications:

Lower respiratory tract infections eg pneumonia bronchitis

Skin and soft tissue infections

Sinusitis

Otitis media

Mycobacterial infections in combination therapy

Other infections caused by susceptible microorganisms

Key Features:

Broadspectrum antibiotic action

Effective against atypical bacteria eg Mycoplasma Chlamydia Legionella

Alternative to penicillin for patients with allergies

Suitable for hospital and ICU use

Dosage  Administration :

Route Intravenous infusion only NOT for direct IV injection

Recommended Dose 500 mg every 12 hours

Reconstitute with sterile water for injection then dilute in suitable IV fluid eg 09 NaCl 5 Dextrose

Infuse over 60 minutes

Duration of therapy Typically 25 days followed by oral therapy if appropriate

Use reconstituted solution immediately or within stability time

Keep out of reach of children

Warnings  Precautions

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to macrolides

Use with caution in hepatic or renal impairment

May interact with drugs metabolized via the CYP3A4 enzyme eg statins theophylline warfarin

Monitor for QT prolongation and arrhythmias in atrisk patients
